JD is both the assistant men’s gymnastics coach for Stanford University and the program director of JDR Gymnastics. The 2006 NCAA West Regional Assistant Coach of the Year, JD assisted Stanford to 3rd place in 2006 and 2007. In 2008 Stanford finished 2nd at the NCAA Championships, each year setting new school records in All-American awards. JD was coached by some of the most influential individuals in USA Gymnastics. Under 1996 Olympic coach Barry Weiner (currently head coach at the University of California, Berkeley) he earned a spot on the Junior National Team at age 10. He began competing internationally at age 11, and a year later won the 1988 Junior Pan American games. At age 15 he was invited to move to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs where he trained under Senior Men's National Team Coordinator Ron Brant. He moved into the Senior ranks at age 16 by taking second place in the all around at the 1993 WinterCup. Throughout his career JD remained on the US National Team for nearly a decade. He has been involved with gymnastics as both an athlete and a coach for nearly 30 years. JD holds a Bachelors of Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of Nebraska.
Doni was a member of the US national team from 1992 through 1995. She won the all around and every event at the 1992 Mexican Olympic Festival. She won two events at the 1994 U.S. Olympic Festival and was a bronze medalist at the 1995 World Championships in Sabae, Japan. As a college standout, she helped UCLA win three NCAA Championships in 2000, 2001 and 2003. She was a two-time collegiate All-American, the All-Pac-10 Conference academic team and the Pac-10 "Freshman of the Year." Doni holds a Bachelors degree in Geography and Environmental Studies. JD and Doni have been married for 2 years. Their son Dante was born in October.
Bruce lim
Bruce is a Nationally Certified judge and has been coaching gymnastics for 6 years. Prior to JDR he worked at Peninsula Gymnastics in San Mateo as a full-time Recreational and Developmental coach. A competitive swimmer, Bruce’s also coaches swimming at the Palo Alto YMCA. Bruce currently works at the YMCA and is part of our coaching staff part-time.
